The Air Force Physical Fitness Assessment isn’t just another test. It’s a comprehensive evaluation of your cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, and core stability. Every airman takes this assessment to ensure they can meet the physical demands of military service.
The test consists of three components. A cardio event that measures your aerobic capacity and cardiovascular health. An upper body exercise that evaluates muscular endurance. A core strength activity that tests your stability and functional fitness. Each component contributes to your overall score and has its own minimum requirements. Our PT calculator is built using the official standards from DAFMAN 36-2905, dated 21 April 2022. The same standards your base uses for actual testing.
The Air Force PT assessment measures three components:
- Cardiovascular fitness – 1.5-mile run or 20-meter HAMR shuttles (60 points max)
- Upper body strength – Push-ups or hand-release push-ups (20 points max)
- Core strength – Sit-ups, cross-leg reverse crunch, or forearm plank (20 points max)
You need 75 total points to pass. Plus at least 10 points in each component. Miss either requirement and you fail.
